Update November 2022 – As the holiday season approaches, Mark Lesinski is preparing for another busy and impactful time helping FeedMore WNY serve the community.
“As long as I am able, I will support FeedMore WNY and the Buffalo-area community in any way I can. It’s an honor to be able to help those in need in our community and showcase how a helping hand can go a long way to helping disenfranchised members of the community regain their footing,” Mr. Lesinski said.
August 2022 – BUFFALO, NY – Mark Lesinski and Jake Harry of Landmark Strategy Group, LLC kicked off the month of July by volunteering at FeedMore WNY. They packed Emergency Food Kits to support the community of Buffalo affected by the tragic shooting that took place at Tops Friendly Markets in the east side of Buffalo on May 14th, 2022. Their efforts helped support the families and individuals who lived in what became a “food desert” in the absence of one of the area’s only supermarkets.
Addressing the Impact
The Tops store re-opened on July 22, as told in a recent article by The Buffalo News. In an area where many residents do not own personal vehicles, many locals took shuttles or Ubers for two months to access grocery stores. The disruption was not just inconvenient but extremely emotional after the trauma and loss caused by the horrific shooting.
While the neighborhood was left to cope with the unbearable, groups such as FeedMore WNY—a local food bank—worked to address the logistical impacts. The concept may strike as foreign in many U.S. neighborhoods where access to personal transportation and grocery stores abound, but the lack of the store was significant and problematic for many area residents.
Supporting the Community
A long-time resident of Buffalo, Mark Lesinski has been involved in supporting FeedMore WNY, Buffalo City Mission, and other community nonprofits for several years.
“The ability to help others is a big part of my ‘why.’ We need to set a clear example for our families and the next generation that we support unity and peace, not division and hate. While the nation moved on to other news, our community has been forced to grapple with the aftermath of tragedy and crisis. Those of us fortunate enough not to be affected directly have the responsibility to provide support to help the community heal,” said Mr. Lesinski.
“This wasn’t just a tragic headline. This hit home and the reverberations haven’t stopped. Unfortunately for many, there will never be full healing from the senseless loss of people’s friends, family members, and neighbors, but we can do what we can to try to prevent additional suffering as a result.”
